DAY 9 - January 13 - Navigating Worship
Psalms 16:11 You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Navigating worship is a skill we can all develop.
I always imagine a worship experience as a journey. As if I am going somewhere new in God. If we were traveling somewhere, we would get in our car - or a train or plane - to get there. To go somewhere in worship we have to get “in the Spirit”. That’s what the apostle John did and look where he ended up!
I imagine God as an ocean. He is vast and unfathomable. Swimming is an option, but not if you want to get anywhere far. We need a better mode of transportation. If we had a boat, that would be better. But without navigation or communication, the chances of getting hopelessly lost are high. Amazingly, the Holy Spirit is a great navigator!
Imagine the Holy Spirit is an ocean vessel named, “My Union With Christ”. We will always worship best from within our Union with Christ - He in me and me in Him.
Worship is an inside and outside experience. To navigate the ocean of His presence we must give ourselves fully to the leadership of His Spirit in our life. Holy Spirit is the one who elevates worship from a simple and predictable song service to an unexplainable encounter with the presence of God.
Our goal as a Christian should be to come to every opportunity we have to worship as “Travel ready” as we can be. Submit your heart to the Lord and invite Holy Spirit to guide you through the vast ocean of God’s presence. He will transport you securely from shore to shore, safely enfolded in Christ. That is how we grow in our experiential knowledge of Him. Study teaches us the principles. Worship teaches us the Person.
In order to be “Heart Ready” for more of God we must become worshippers!
Psalms 84:1-4 How lovely is your dwelling place,
O LORD of Heaven’s Armies.
2 I long, yes, I faint with longing
to enter the courts of the LORD.
With my whole being, body and soul,
I will shout joyfully to the living God.
3 Even the sparrow finds a home,
and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young
at a place near your altar,
O LORD of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God!
4 What joy for those who can live in your house,
always singing your praises.
MEDITATION
• Practice using your imagination in worship. You could begin by simply envisioning yourself before the Throne of God, surrounded by other worshipping believers from all around the world and through all the ages. That is a very powerful image that happens to be perfectly true in that it will one day be a reality.
• Submission is a powerful way we should always come to worship. When we yield to His leadership, Holy Spirit will surround us with Christ. Remember the great mystery is that, just as much as He is in us we are as completely in Him.
• When we travel, we enjoy seeing and experiencing new things. Imagine paying for a European vacation, going on the trip and then sleeping the whole time? That would be crazy! It’s just the same as when we come to worship and don’t fully engage with all the Lord has for us. There are new experiences awaiting us ahead! There are things that we’ve never seen before just around the corner! Engage! Pay attention! Receive everything coming your way from the Presence of the Lord.
