The Revealing of the Sons of God
Romans 8:18-23 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. 23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.
The revealing of the sons of God is a revelation of Glory. God wants to put His sons on display before the world so He can demonstrate His own Glory. The riches of salvation are meant to shine radiantly from our victorious faces. Not so that we can be lifted up, but so that praise rises to the Lord Most High.
Ephesians 2:7 That in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
The glorious liberty of the sons of God will create cataclysmic breakthrough in all creation and will be the fulfillment of great hope. Our freedom is meant to do something to the very fabric of creation. Every plant, every animal, every rock and every speck of dirt on this great blue marble will resound with worship as the sons of God receive the fulness of their inheritance.
Though we are enjoying the first fruits of Glory through the Holy Spirit now, there is coming a day of adoption in our future. Scripture says we are already adopted (Romans 8:14-16). But, there is coming a day when even our bodies will be redeemed. While Scripture affirms that this complete redemption is still to come (Romans 8:23), it also says we are already redeemed and seated with Christ in Heaven (Ephesians 2:4-6). We are to act as if we were already raised (Romans 6:4) and we should believe that the Spirit of Resurrection is already at work in our mortal bodies (Romans 8:11) even though we still wait for the ultimate redemption of our bodies.
The tension between the now and not yet is real (1 John 3:1-3). But nowhere in scripture does it state that we are forbidden from seeking more than we currently have of God’s Glory as a benefit of salvation. The taste we now enjoy of His goodness is meant to inspire us into a greater pursuit.
There is a definitely a timeline in Heaven. But, we have always been encouraged to see how much of the mystery we can unravel now in order to receive more. We may not have it all here on earth. But, we can always have more than we do right now. How willing are we to press in - to ask, seek and knock? The promise that has continuously been upheld from the beginning is that we will have what we ask.

If we are out of our minds in a blissful, divine ecstasy, it is for God, but if we are in our right minds, it is for your benefit. 14 For it is Christ’s love that fuels our passion and holds us tightly, because we are convinced that he has given his life for all of us. This means all died with him, 15 so that those who live should no longer live self-absorbed lives but lives that are poured out for him—the one who died for us and now lives again. 16 So, from now on, we refuse to evaluate people merely by their outward appearances. For that’s how we once viewed the Anointed One, but no longer do we see him with limited human insight. 17 Now, if anyone is enfolded into Christ, he has become an entirely new person. All that is related to the old order has vanished. Behold, everything is fresh and new. 18 And God has made all things new, and reconciled us to himself, and given us the ministry of reconciling others to God. 19 In other words, it was through the Anointed One that God was shepherding the world, not even keeping records of their transgressions, and he has entrusted to us the ministry of opening the door of reconciliation to God. 20 We are ambassadors of the Anointed One who carry the message of Christ to the world, as though God were tenderly pleading with them directly through our lips. So we tenderly plead with you on Christ’s behalf, “Turn back to God and be reconciled to him.” 21 For God made the only one who did not know sin to become sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God through our union with him.

What do you believe about salvation that is for you now and what do you believe is for later? Make a list with three columns side by side. On the left write what you believe you should enjoy now as a Believer. In the center column, list what you believe is only for the future. Think about your beliefs. Scripture often invites us into deeper and deeper experiences. Is there any place where you feel you have written something in the wrong column? In the righthand column write the reasons, including scriptures, why you feel you should revise your belief in that area.
