The Light of His Glory
2 Corinthians 4:6-12 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. 8 We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— 10 always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 11 For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. 12 So then death is working in us, but life in you.
God’s Glory is a practical glory. His Glory doesn’t only shine in perfect conditions. That means that while something incredibly valuable has now been invested in every Believer at the same time, and in the same earthen vessel, death is constantly attempting to gain a foothold.
That battle for the victory of Glory that we all face internally, is the means by which God’s Glory expands in the earth. When Paul says that, “Death is working in us but life in you,” he is declaring that no matter what he and the other Apostles face in their suffering, the Glory of God WILL continue to expand in the hearts of those who believe.
When we face struggle and suffering it doesn’t mean that we forfeit our access to Glory. It simply means that Glory is being released all around us, like candle light shining forth from a broken jar of clay. We should never give in to discouragement when we face hardship. How we face opposition increases the eternal weight of Glory emanating from our life. When we win we win and when we lose we win. The light of His Glory is unstoppable.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Have you ever noticed how much easier it is to think about your problems than it is to count your blessings? Or, how much easier it is to believe that something bad has happened than it is to believe that something good has happened? The propensity we all share to focus on the negative first, rather than a blessing, is because we are conditioned by what we see. When we look around us there is a lot of suffering, sadness and disappointment in the world. We see so much injustice happening to so many people. It’s so much easier to focus on this instead of the often invisible working of grace. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to re-wire your brain to focus on the invisible realm rather than the visible one.
The realm you can see is passing away. Soon it will be gone. But, the realm you cannot see will last forever. The weight of it, the true reality of it, is eternal. How do we re-wire our brain? First, we repent of any negative focus we hold. What are the lies we believe that keep our vision focused only in one direction? Cancel your agreements with, and your “subscriptions” to, those lies. Next, use your imagination to begin to visualize the things you cannot physically see right now - like the blessings, the answered prayers and the miracles. Begin to declare the victory of His unfolding Glory into all the dark situations you face. Just like we know the sun will rise, we declare the appearance of our victorious Savior in a glorious new day!
Malachi 4:2 But to you who fear My name
The Sun of Righteousness shall arise
With healing in His wings;
And you shall go out
And grow fat like stall-fed calves (Trust me, it’s a good thing).
1 Thessalonians 5:5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.
