WEEK ONE - THE MYSTERY OF GLORY
Moses and the Burning Bush
Exodus 3:1 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. 3 Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.”
Moses is remembered as the man who delivered the Israelites out of the slavery they endured in Egypt. He is also known as the Lawgiver who came down from Mount Sinai with two tablets of stone containing the Ten Commandments. But, to a lesser degree, he is remembered for his single-minded pursuit of the glory of God.
In my opinion, it was Moses’ hunger and devotion to God’s Glory that led to the other miraculous accomplishments of his incredible life. This is important because it is so easy for us to focus on the miraculous - the extraordinary demonstrations of His power - rather than on the One Who does all miracles. Healings, Deliverances, Revival, these are all incredible examples of what God can do. Yet, it is our pursuit of His Glory that opens the door of heavenly wonders to us.
As we begin a 21 day focus on prayer and fasting this year, my hope is to inspire a return to the pursuit of His glory as the chief goal and focus of our faith. Most of us are inclined to pray for our own personal needs and those of our family and loved ones. This we should do. We may also choose to focus upon the needs we see around us in our own community, country and among the nations. This is a great responsibility. But, as we strive to experience more in this new year, let’s not neglect our pursuit of God directly. A pursuit rooted in the desire to know more about Him. Because it is this great passion to “Know Him and make Him known”, that will truly propel us into a fresh revelation and experience of His glory in 2025.
Moses asked to see God’s glory. But, his curiosity regarding the Glory of God, the Fire of God, began much earlier than that when he came aside from the path of his journey so he could get a closer look at a great wonder; a burning bush unconsumed by the fire in it.
Moses first encountered God in the burning bush on Mount Sinai, also known as Mt. Horeb. Here the Lord commanded him to lead His chosen people out of Egypt into the land promised to Abraham.
Moses was obedient to God in order to free God's chosen people from slavery. After their escape, he consecrated the people to God and ascended Mt. Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments. These laws were written by the finger of God.
Exodus 19-34 reveals the extraordinary story of this covenant between God and His people.
As Believers, we understand that a New Covenant has now been established through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ that makes an even greater degree of God’s Glory available to us through the Holy Spirit. How much more of His Glory is available to us? Let’s turn aside during these three weeks and begin to find out.

ACTIVATION
Take a few minutes to write down what you are curious to know from your relationship with God. What should be your goal for these 21 days of fasting and prayer? What do you hope to find or achieve as you pursue God during this fast? More answers to prayer? Greater understanding? Breakthroughs? Encounters? Whatever it is, make a list and refer to it throughout these 21 days. That way we can measure ur progress. Like Moses, we are beginning a journey together that many years to accomplish. Our goal is to see His Glory in 2025.
