The Empowerment of Glory
Exodus 4:3-5 And He said, “Cast it [the rod] on the ground.” So he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it. 4 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail” (and he reached out his hand and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand), 5 “that they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”
Exodus 4:6-9 Furthermore the LORD said to him, “Now put your hand in your bosom.” And he put his hand in his bosom, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous, like snow. 7 And He said, “Put your hand in your bosom again.” So he put his hand in his bosom again, and drew it out of his bosom, and behold, it was restored like his other flesh. 8 “Then it will be, if they do not believe you, nor heed the message of the first sign, that they may believe the message of the latter sign. 9 And it shall be, if they do not believe even these two signs, or listen to your voice, that you shall take water from the river and pour it on the dry land. The water which you take from the river will become blood on the dry land.”
Everyone wants to see more miracles. We desire to be used by God to heal the sick, cast out demons and raise the dead. It’s actually promised to us in the Gospels.
Mark 16:15-18 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
However, Moses did not ask for the ability to perform miracles, he asked for God to somehow endorse the words he would speak. He wasn’t looking for power he was looking for influence. When we ask God to use us to perform miracles are we infatuated with the idea that we are being used to do great things? Or, are we gripped with the reality that we cannot preach about a supernatural, loving God without demonstrations of His loving power?
God empowered Moses to perform wonders. He used what was in Moses’ hand (the rod) to begin the work. He took what Moses had and saturated it with miracle-working power. He went beyond that, to saturate Moses’ body with the authority to command leprosy and then to heal it. He gave him the authority over nature to command rivers, animals and even insects. And on the way out of Egypt he upgraded Moses to the point that he even had the authority to part the Red Sea.
When God sends a messenger He empowers the messenger. If we carry His Word, His exploits will follow. Not because we are special. But, because God will always affirm His Word. He will not back up our crazy ideas, foolish plans or selfish goals. But, He will always prove His Word.
So, the first step to being used to work His wonders is to receive His word and then to stand in His Glory. Say, “Yes” to the assignment He gives you. God will equip you with ALL that you need to declare Who He Is in the Earth.

Are you willing to be a messenger and carrier of His Glory? If you are, you will see miracles. Moses brought what he had in his hand to God. He recognized that what he carried was not enough in itself to complete the assignment. He asked for help. God took what Moses held and released more capacity to him.
