DAY 6 - January 10 - The Awe of God

DAY 6 - JANUARY 10 - The Awe of God

Job 42:1 NLT Then Job replied to the LORD:
2 “I know that you can do anything,
and no one can stop you.
3 You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’
It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about,
things far too wonderful for me.
4 You said, ‘Listen and I will speak!
I have some questions for you,
and you must answer them.’
5 I had only heard about you before,
but now I have seen you with my own eyes
.
6 I take back everything I said,
and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”

Job was tested in ways that most people would not be able to come through without a crisis of faith. His crisis exposed the condition of his heart. Though he was a righteous man who experienced many blessings from God, he really did not understand who God was. When God spoke to Job, Job was left speechless. He was in awe of Creator God as He had been revealed to him. God is holy and at the same time He is humble. It is easy to miss His perfection and His power when he is willing to communicate and take time for creatures within His creation. God is so far above us, it is breathtaking to consider the cost of the humility He demonstrates when communicating with us. God is holy and at the same time He is humble. Christ became a man and humbled Himself to the point of death on a cross. His sacrifice opens the way to salvation for all mankind. Jesus is our friend, but He is also the Lord God Almighty. He is the Captain of Heaven’s angel armies. He is the Alpha and Omega - ALL THINGS are under His feet!

Intimate communion with the Lord of Heaven is a wonderful privilege. It is staggering that we are actually invited to such a deep level of fellowship with Him. Yet, even when we feel closest to Him, we should always be in awe of Him. We should revere Him. Respect and admiration for His person should never leave us.

The gift we have all received beyond salvation is the gift of the Spirit of Christ living inside us. God is as close as our next breath. Be aware of Him. Worship Him. Humble yourself before Him. Be in awe of Him.

1 John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life— 2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us— 3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.

Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

John 17:20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me."

Ephesians 3:14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named.

2 Corinthians 9:15 Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!

MEDITATION

• Think about the person of God and how well you know Him. How could you
improve this relationship? How respectful of Him are you? Do you express gratitude that He is willing to interact with you?

• What are some ways you could express your respect and admiration to God?

• How would a higher level of awe and respect before the Lord change how you interact with Him?
